Located in the southernmost part of Northeast China is Dalian, a coastal city known as “The North Pearl” for her breath-taking seascape and billowing mountains. Here stands a well-known higher education institution of finance and economics — Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (DUFE). DUFE covers a total area of 975.27 mu (about 650, 000 square meters), and has a total enrollment of over 18,000 full-time students and over 1,800 staff members.
DUFE (www.dufe.edu.cn) is one of China’s First 4 Universities of Finance and Economics. Since her foundation in 1952, DUFE has consistently adhered to the motto “Bo Xue, Ji Shi” (Broaden Intellectual Horizon and Contribute to Social Well-being) and has shouldered the mission of “Cultivating élite financial and commercial professionals and serving economic development and social progress” in an inclusive and innovative approach.
DUFE has developed a complete system of education, offering 39 undergraduate programs, 87 postgraduate programs, and 42 PhD programs, in the disciplines of economics, management science, law, arts and natural sciences. In addition, DUFE has five Postdoctoral Research Centers.
In the 4th round of National Disciplinary Assessment (2012-2017) by MOE (Chinese Ministry of Education), DUFE’s discipline of Applied Economics was ranked A (among top 2%-5%), the disciplines of Business Administration and Statistics were ranked A- (among top 5%-10%); Management Science and Engineering was ranked B+ (among top 10%-20%).
In December 2019, 13 DUFE disciplines successfully entered into the National First-rate Discipline Development List. They are Accounting, Business Administration, E-Commerce, Economic Statistics, Engineering Management, Finance, Financial Management, HR Management, Labour and Social Security, Logistics Management, Marketing, Public Finance, and Tourism Management.
DUFE is China’s first university that has passed Quality Certification for Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Projects. DUFE has so far established friendly cooperative relations with 111 universities and eight other types of institutions from 22 countries and regions, which tells the breadth and depth of her international communications and cooperation. In 2007, Surrey International Institute was established with cooperation between DUFE and University of Surrey (UK). In 2016, DUFE and Hofstra University (USA) launched an overseas education program, China’s first overseas program that confers domestic university’s degrees on American undergraduates, representing a new dimension of DUFE’s internationalization.
