Summer Camp 2023: Language & Culture in China

Two-week Summer Camp

Confucius Institute for Business (CIB) at Matej Bel University (UMB) will organize a study tour to China from around July 3 – July 16, 2023. The participants will have the opportunity to visit 3 cities, namely, Dalian, Beijing and Shanghai. Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE), the partner university of Confucius Institute at UMB, will host the program. 

Dalian, the northern pearl of China, is not only a seaport city, but also a fashion city and a summer resort for visitors home and abroad. The schedule in Dalian includes Chinese language classes, visits and seminars such as Chinese calligraphy, traditional folk arts, Kungfu, and the exploration of the city. 

Beijing, the capital city of China, is long in history and rich in culture. Here in Beijing, the participants will go into the ancient and yet modern city. Tours may include the Great Wall, the Bird’s Nest, the Water Cube, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, etc. There may also be opportunities to wander in ancient parks, to shop as Beijingers do, and to taste the local delicacies for which Beijing is most famous. 

Shanghai, a metropolis along the coast of East China Sea, is a major commercial and financial center with great humanistic attraction. Here in Shanghai, the participants will have opportunity to visit Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Bund, etc.

Costs

  • Tuition, accomodations, and travel to Beijing and to Shanghai will be covered by the host university DUFE;
  • International travels (including insurance), visa fees and travel to the host city (Dalian) will be covered by the participants themselves.

Eligibility

  • The participants must have completed at least one Chinese course offered by CIB at UMB; or
  • Have registered in one CIB-at-UMB course and will finish the course before departure.

Please note: Participants will be required to obtain a Chinese visa for this trip. Chinese visas require a passport that has at least 6 months of validity from the date of entry into China. If you need to apply for or to renew your passport, please plan in advance and receive it in time.
