In-term Training and Seminar for Chinese Teachers and Volunteers in Slovakia Successfully Held

6. Máj 2024

The In-term training and seminar for Chinese teachers and volunteers in Slovakia was held successfully in Banská Bystrica during April 27-28, 2024. Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) entrusted Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) and her partner university, Matej Bel University (MBU), with the training and seminar program, aiming to a better understanding of Slovakia, mutual learning and exchanges of experiences among the Chinese teachers and volunteers, so as to improve their ability and capacity to teach the Chinese language and culture. About 30 in-term volunteer teachers, Chinese teachers, Slovak Chinese teachers, and students of the Chinese Studies program and the Chinese Language Education program from Comenius University Bratislava [Note1] attended the event. We are grateful for the huge support of CLEC and the tremendous help of the Confucius Institute at Comenius University Bratislava and the Confucius Institute at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.

The in-term training and seminar invited nine experts and lecturers from China and Slovakia. Their lectures involved a diversified range of topics concerning International Chinese Language Education, which vertically extend from kindergarten to university and horizontally spread over fields like Slovak education policy, educational systems at different levels, accreditation of university programs, bilingual education, the Chinese studies in Slovakia, kindergarten education, HSK, etc. In addition, the in-term training also devoted a section to volunteerism and career development of the volunteer teachers.

MBU Vice-Rector Miroslava Knapková delivered an opening speech. She welcomed the volunteer Chinese teachers and all other Chinese teachers to MBU for the in-term training and seminar. She thanked them for coming from afar to teach the Chinese language here in Slovakia. She hoped that all teachers participating in the program can improve themselves in their understanding of Slovakia and in their future teaching, and can be a true bridge of cultural exchanges between China and Slovakia.

Director LI Zhuo, Division of Cultural Affairs of Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), saluted all teachers for their hard work and expressed his sincere greetings. He believes that "because of you, more Slovaks will understand and appreciate China, and more Chinese will come to know and love Slovakia."

The in-term training and seminar ended successfully after two days of lectures, reports and discussions, which has helped the Chinese teachers and volunteers to understand more of Slovakia and will definitely improve their teaching ability pertinent to the Chinese teaching in Slovakia.

Before the in-term training and seminar began, the MBU Vice-Rector for international cooperation and the Slovak Director of the Confucius Institute for Business at Matej Bel University (CIB at UMB), doc. Mgr. Ing. Miroslava Knapková, PhD., held a meeting with the CLEC delegation. Both parties exchanged greetings and discussed about possible cooperation in the future.

Note1: Comenius University Bratislava is the cradle of Slovak sinologists. It is by far the only university in Slovakia that has the Chinese Studies program and the Chinese Language Education program. The two programs have both received the latest Slovak national accreditation certificates. Professor YE Rong, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Comenius University Bratislava, is one of the five professors that the study programs must and have to retain. According to the Slovak accreditation system, a study program on the university level must have at least five professors or associate professors, who shall demostrate their levels of academic creativity depending on the degrees of the programs.
