Slovakia and China are both growing rapidly in the global economy. The Belt and Road Initiative has combined the two countries more closely with increasing trade volumes and cultural exchanges. There arising together with this trend are the needs to learn more about each other. Confucius Institutes are non-profit educational institutions based on university partnerships to provide such a platform for mutual understanding and cultural exchanges as well as cooperations.
Confucius Institute for Business (CIB) at Matej Bel University (MBU, or UMB in Slovak) was established in December 2018 as a result of partnership between Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) in Dalian, with the support of Confucius Institute Headquarters (CIH).
CIB at UMB not only offers unique opportunity for UMB students, staff and the general public to attend Chinese courses and cultural activities, but also has the ambition to enlarge his offer for companies who are interested in doing business with China. CIB also serves to open the door for other forms of cooperation that the partners choose to enter into, such as common researches, faculty and student exchanges, and joint programs and degrees.
CIB aims at strengthening UMB visibility at the national level, increasing UMB students’ competitiveness at the global level, contributing to the development of the region and cultural exchange and understanding between the two countries.
